What the statute says
A registered agent is the person or company the state and the courts send legal papers to. The agent must have a street address in Utah, not a PO box, and be available during business hours. You can be your own agent ("The Registered Agent is a business or individual designated to receive service of process when a..., full wording under the statute below).
Annual report and what happens without an agent

The annual report due date is not published on the page we read. Fee: $18 for an LLC, $18 for a corporation. Late fee: $10.
Without an agent on file: If the division determines grounds exist for administratively dissolving an entity, it serves notice and the entity has 60 days to cure or demonstrate the grounds do not exist. (Utah Code § 48-3a-708 (LLC administrative dissolution)). In practice that means missed lawsuits and a company that can lose its good standing.
