Maine requires every LLC and corporation to keep a registered agent with a Maine street address. Whether you can be your own agent is not stated on the filing office site. Changing your agent costs $35 for an LLC and $35 for a corporation. The Annual Report is due June 1. If you have no agent: Late penalty attaches if the June 1 annual report deadline is missed; continued failure to file, pay the late penalty, or maintain a clerk/registered agent leads the Secretary of State to administratively dissolve a domestic entity or revoke a foreign entity's authority.. Hiring an agent costs $125 to $249 a year at renewal on the providers' own sites, read 2026-09-08; first-year offers run lower.

How to change your registered agent in Maine
Three steps. Most owners finish online in under fifteen minutes.
- Choose the new agent. Whether you can be your own agent is not stated on the filing office site. Or hire a service from the price table below; they give you their Maine street address to put on the form.

- File online. Cached 2022 SOS press release (corporate-annual-reports-2022-now-available) states online services 'include the ability for noncommercial clerks or noncommercial registered agents to change their addresses. ... Anyone wishing to make these address changes separately from the online annual report filing service can also do so online,' and gives https://www10.informe.org/aro/index_on.html as the annual-report online filing portal (same portal family). Not independently re-confirmed on a 2026-dated page as still the correct URL for an agent/clerk change specifically -- form_name/name-change may still require the CLKRA3 paper form per the change-clerk menu page. Open www10.informe.org

- Or file the paper form. Change of Clerk or Registered Agent Information (Form CLKRA3), from the Maine Secretary of State, Bureau of Corporations, Elections and Commissions. The mailing address is printed on the form. Open the Maine filing office Direct PDF

- Pay the fee. Changing your agent costs $35 for an LLC and $35 for a corporation. Keep the confirmation; the new agent is effective when the state records it.

A represented entity may change the information currently on file under section 105, subsection 1 by filing with the Secretary of State a statement of change signed on behalf of the entity that states the name of the entity and the information to be in effect.

Annual report and what happens without an agent

The Annual Report is due June 1. Fee: $85 for an LLC, $85 for a corporation. Late fee: not published.
Without an agent on file: Late penalty attaches if the June 1 annual report deadline is missed; continued failure to file, pay the late penalty, or maintain a clerk/registered agent leads the Secretary of State to administratively dissolve a domestic entity or revoke a foreign entity's authority. (5 M.R.S. ch. 6-A (Model Registered Agents Act); Title 13-C / Title 31 dissolution provisions). In practice that means missed lawsuits and a company that can lose its good standing.
